Concrete Pumping Is A Cost-Effective Construction Method

By Serena Price

Concrete pumping is the name of the process where it is possible to get concrete to places that are normally difficult to access. Such places include the top of high-rise buildings, and tunnels. There are two main kinds of pump, boom trucks and line pumps. There are other models, the skid-mounted and rail-mounted pumps, but these are usually only required in extremely specialized environments.

A boom truck comes as a self-contained unit, comprising a frame and the actual pump. The boom is a remote-controlled arm that moves the pump to the position it is required with great accuracy. They are favoured when the mixture is required for a large project. This is because the trucks are highly manoeuvrable and can be positioned into a small space. The boom then positions the pump where it is required.

The second type of pump found in common use is known as a line pump, or trailer mounted pump. The fact that these are extremely portable add to their versatility. They are manufactured in different sizes; therefore, they can be used for large structural jobs, or a low-volume jobs such as grouting. Another advantage with these pumps is that they use a ball valve, with steel or rubber hoses. This simple design makes them easy to clean and maintain.

If you are working on a project where access is difficult, such as a tunnel or mine-shaft, there are other models available. This is where you need pumps that are skid or rail-mounted. Though not being used very often, they play an important role in the construction industry.

The advantages offered by concrete pumping can help many businesses. Due to the ability of being able to apply the material exactly where it is required from a single source is very cost-effective. Other efficiencies are that once the pump has been positioned, there is no requirement for it to be moved, therefore reducing any risk of injury to personnel, or damage to the surrounding area.

In relation to the more traditional methods of applying concrete, this method saves a great deal of time and manpower. Because the concrete can be mixed and transported within the same unit at the time that used to be wasted by mixing, transporting, and then shovelling the mixture into the pomp has been eliminated. It also cut down the number of vehicles require it on a site.

Construction sites, as a rule, are very muddy and crowded places, so there is an advantage to not having trucks continually moving from one place to another. This makes the site a far safer place for the workers. There is also the risk of a fully-laden truck getting stuck in the mud, and a lot of time would be wasted freeing them from this situation.

Concrete pumping is a far more productive method of applying the mixture in almost all situations. It eliminates a lot of wasted manpower, as workers are not required to move and shovel it from one part of the site to another. The work site, and surrounding areas, are no longer so hazardous as the movement of trucks is reduced. This increases safety in all areas, and will help your relations with the local community.
