Moms and dads around the world are usually concerned with giving their families the best. This means that they aim for food that is high in nutrients and always try to prepare it in a manner that is pleasing. However, protecting your loved ones goes way beyond that. You must also pay attention to the containers that you use to store and prepare foodstuff. This is why many mothers and fathers choose to use BPA free plastic containers in their household.

Bis phenol A is used in manufacturing plastic bottles and other types of containers because it gives them strength. Without it or another substance that acts in a similar manner in terms of durability, soap dishes, bowls and other products would deteriorate quickly. In fact, it is not the only chemical to watch out for as there are several which behave in a similar manner.

The issue with Bis phenol A comes from the fact that it behaves just like estrogen. Estrogen is a female hormone that is responsible for many of the traits exhibited by women, such as healthy breasts. It plays an active part in reproduction and in overall health in girls. Without adequate quantities of it, there many be problems in the body.

When girls as young as four or five as exposed to BPA at an early age, they can end up developing breasts and other features that are associated with girls who have gone through puberty. In fact, they start showing these characteristics earlier than they should. They may begin menstruation and even have problems as a result.

Boys are also affected by having BPA in their diet. They will react to any chemical that mimics estrogen and even though they may not have a womb and ovaries, their bodies can change to exhibit female characteristics. Boys who are exposed to high levels of female hormones or substances that act like female hormones can develop breasts.

Baby bottles and lunch boxes that kids and adults carry to work or school are just one likely source of BPA. Joggers who use plastic bottles, plastic knives and forks and other utensils may all contain this substance. When they are heated they release more of the toxin but they also leach it when water and juice sit in them for a while.

There are lots of alternatives to containers that use the toxin so you should always shop wisely. Most vessels that are made without it say so clearly on the label. They cost the same as those that are made with it. For your own health and that of your family, try to avoid even small amounts of the chemical by reading labels before you buy.

There are many reasons to avoid bis phenol A as much as possible. However, this is not the only toxin that you should stay clear of. Ensure that in the effort to find healthier bottles for your family to use you do not simply end up exchanging one harmful substance for another. Keep informed of what goes into the materials that are used at every stage of processing.
