Making Garden Decorations From Junk

It is definitely a fact that one man's trash can easily become another man's treasure. This is especially true when decorating a yard or lawn and you utilize garden decorations from junk. You will be very surprised at the end result when you get creative with items that cost virtually nothing.

An old wheelbarrow may have seen better days but it still may have some life in it. Fill it with a variety of pots and flowers. Include some vines that spill over the edges of the equipment. It will also look quaint and colorful in a corner of your garden or you can grow kitchen herbs close to your back door for easy access. It will also look intriguing and colorful in a corner of your yard. The best feature of this is that the entire collection of plants can be moved under cover or inside during a storm or cold snap.

Old tin or aluminum buckets, beach pails, colorful olive oil tins, or country crocks are easily used as unusual pots and planters for your favorite blooms such as geraniums, daisies, roses or zinnias. Those with handles can be hung from trees or fences for even more color and interest.

An old washtub on legs may seem to be headed for the dump but it too can be lined and then filled with a variety of plants. The depth of this piece of equipment may make it the perfect spot to grow cherry tomatoes, carrots or chives. It is also an excellent and complete place for a salad garden.

Utilize an old wooden or metal wagon to display vintage gardening accessories or tools. You can also fill it with pots of herbs that can be used in your kitchen for your seasonal delights. Use larger models for seating when the chairs run out. Just add a wooden cover to the open bed. An old-style tricycle can be the decor of choice in the middle of an old-fashioned flower bed. Fill the basket on the handlebar or the tray above the back wheels with potted flowers that will add even more color to this intriguing arrangement.

An old metal or wooden crib minus the legs makes an instant and attractive flower bed. You can paint it to match your outdoor decor or leave it the way it is for a rustic and nostalgic effect. Add a few vines to the flower mixture to add some interest to the arrangement.

Hang a series of rustic old bicycles on your fence line for a special effect. If necessary, paint them to match your landscaping but often the authentic look of an old-time bicycle is priceless.

With emphasis on re-using and recycling old items, these projects will help rejuvenate a once-useless item and keep it from rusting out in an landfill. Look around your home and decide what else can be done with seemingly useless articles. Get creative and you will be very surprised at exactly what surprises you come up with.
