Tabletop Reflow Oven With Oven Toasters

By Tanisha Berg

The world has been running in electronics nowadays. Computers are constant sights everywhere, at factories, in offices and most commonly at homes. Today, they have been very important in doing communication and transactions which are done on a daily basis by humans.

Electronics means electricity, and to create it, you should do several metal connections. The process of connecting metals together is called reflow soldering. Its goal is to make electric current pass through circuits by joining metal components together. Large ovens are used in this kind of process, however, you can convert an oven toaster into a tabletop reflow oven.

The process of soldering goes like this. A mechanical bond is created between the two metal parts to be joined and that is done by the solder. In short, it is what joins the pieces together. It is also used in making jewelries and in plumbing. However, burning is a danger that is why the melting point of the solder is significantly lower than the metals. It also serves other purpose like allowing the assembly to cool down and settle quick.

After joining, the entire set is subjected under a heating process that melts the solder, thus, joining the parts together permanently. Here, enters the reflow ovens which are used in joining surface mount components to circuit boards primarily. Other options to do soldering are also available such as using infrared lamps and hot air pencils to join parts individually.

There are two types of reflow ovens though, infrared and convection ovens and vapor phase ovens. The first type uses a conveyor belt to move the set through the several chambers of heating and cooling. For safety and quality purposes, the moving in each zone is done in preset time.

Thermal energy does the heating in the second type. This is done by the liquid that undergoes phase transition to transfer heat. Take note that the solder and the liquid should be compatible, meaning their boiling points should be proportional with each other to achieve perfection. When the solder burns, the work would really go off.

Since the convection type uses nitrogen all the time to maintain a no oxygen atmosphere inside the chamber which increases the costs of the work, the vapor phase type is more advantageous. It is already an oxygen free process and totally nitrogen free, too making it more cost effective. Also, overheating cannot happen because the maximum temperature the set can reach will depend on the boiling point of the liquid. You just have to be extra careful in choosing the medium for the process.

For starters, you can make use of a secondhand, or if you want, a brand new oven toaster to serve as your reflow oven. You can make adjustments in their wiring and electrical components that will make it usable for reflow works. When you are in a very restricted space, it can come very convenient.

You need not occupy a big space because a tabletop will do. Ask for steps in converting oven toasters into reflow ones from electronics professionals. Do not try to the work on your own because you just might endanger your safety. You might not know it, but electronics can be life threatening with not enough knowledge on its technicalities.
