A Quick Guide To Selecting Custom Printed Photo Frames

By Joseph Young

The presentation of your artwork determines its overall appearance. To ensure that you achieve the best display, you need to use suitable or matching custom printed photo frames. It is important to note that the value of the image does not guarantee the elegance of the display if the frame is not suitable. When purchasing for a new frame, you can use the following ideas to get one that complements the value of your artwork.

Frames are made of two types. They are either wooden or metallic. You should ensure that you have chosen that improves the value of your photos. Wooden frames bring about traditional feel of the image and give the artwork a warm look. On the other hand, metallic frames make your artwork appear firm and industrious.

However, for the best framing results, you need to choose the right mat board. Mat board is used to create the space between the glass and the frame. This space improves the value of the photo and gives it an eye-catching view. It is important for the mat board to be put in place by a professional. Otherwise, you carry out this task if you have the skills and right tools for the work. This actually makes it cheaper for you than outsourcing the services.

Furthermore, there are three decisions to take when it comes to matting. They include quality, layers and colors to use. Grade determines how well that mat material will preserve the artwork over a long period of time. Preservation is dictated by the acidity level in the mat. The more the acidity the quicker the mat material will deteriorate.

Layers are put on each other on the frame of the artwork. They usually lie between the frame and the photo. This exercise should be carried meticulously and by professional framers or photographers. This layer creates a space between the frame and the image so that both cannot stick together. When you do not allow this space in the frame, they become worn out easily and the image loses its stylish appearance.

Mats have various shades of color. They can be black, white, gold, silver or rainbow. It is advisable to use neutral borders as opposed to bold or highly contrasting ones. This makes your artworks to have classy look. This is admirable to you and other viewers as well.

Additionally, you have to choose the best suitable mounting board. The board forms the back of the frame where you attach your photo. Mostly, many people use cardboard as their mounting board, but it is not advisable to use it because of its high level of acidity which may in turn reduce the life time of frame. The best mounting boards are made of polystyrene core which is placed between two smooth papers.

Furthermore, you need to choose a good glazing material. Glazing protects everything that is enclosed in the photo frame. Glazing is optional but it is important because it protects the frames from being destroyed by changing weather conditions. The four types of glazing processes used in image framing are; ultraviolet, antiglare, standard and combined ultraviolet and antiglare. Standard is suitable for average framer, ultraviolet prevents UV rays from penetrating the glass, antiglare sustains the glare from been destroyed by either natural or bulb light and a combined antiglare and ultraviolet reduces the glazing.
