Basics About Chico Dance Studios

By Matthew Snyder

Dance studios are spaces that are specifically meant for dancing and rehearsing moves. Any space that is equipped or constructed for use in dancing sessions may also be referred to using this term. The special purpose that these rooms serve makes them to be designed in a special manner. In Chico dance studios can be found in many parts. This ease of availability is due to the large number of music and dance companies in the area.

Most dancing styles require dance studios that are designed with smooth floors. However, other styles require the floor to be made of hardwood. An example of such a style is tap dancing. A studio is also fixed with performance surfaces that can be rolled and carried to other performance venues. Some level of flexibility in the floor is allowed in the design specifications.

Flexibility of the floors is important because it helps in promoting good health and safety. Such floors absorb the impact that may result from intensive dance exercises such as jumping and jogging. Besides flexible floors, a studio includes a barre, which is usually fixed onto the walls or may be a standalone moveable device. A barre usually rises to the waist and is used to provide support when dancing.

Music makes an essential component of dancing. As such, sound systems are included in most kinds of studio. The sound systems play music from tapes, memory sticks, Bluetooth devices, and CDs among other sources. Control is done using remote controls so that instructors are able to replay sections of music for dancers.

Different kinds of musical instruments such as pianos are always part of a studio. Pianos find a lot of application in ballet and tap dancing. Mirrors are also incorporated in studios besides musical instruments. The mirrors are usually huge and cover the whole wall from floors to ceilings. Mirrors are for dancers to see their positions and alignment on the floor. Other items found in a studio is a wall clock and platform such as a table for the instructor to work from.

These facilities vary in many aspects. Some have small floor areas while other span several meters. The size of the floor area needed is dependent on three major factors. These factors are age of participants, type of activity expected to be performed in the space, and number of dancers expected at any given time. When choosing a studio, one should choose one with a small number of students, preferably below eighteen.

The amount of space needed by different genres of dance varies. Most South Asian and African genres are usually centered in a specific spot. This is different from what happens in ballet where dancers need to move around a lot. The resilience and how long dancers and keep the motion up is highly dependent on the nature of the floor. The nature of the floor also determines how perfectly moves are executed.

A studio should be designed with a lot of headroom. Dancers should be able to jump without running the risk of knocking their heads on the ceiling. Apart from that, providing freedom, high-rising ceilings also help with air circulation and supplying fresh air. Fresh air helps to replenish energy during intensive dancing sessions.
