They are no longer willing to pay a lot of money each month for a bunch of channels they simply do not watch. When you are interested in getting free television central Arkansas homeowners like you might wonder what you need to do to get started with eliminating costly cable from your life.

Acquiring no cost channels is not hard at all. In fact, you can get an inexpensive antenna from your local big box store. It simply plugs or screws into the back of the TV. It might have long antennae that you can pull up as far as they will go to pick up the broadest signal. The antennae can be moved back and forth to get the best picture.

So that it can find OTA channels, the TV must be put on a setting that is something different than the one used for cable. It may simply say TV or OTA on the screen. You can then use the menu to start a channel search. This search might take several minutes or sometimes up to a half hour. It determines what ones will come in clearly and what ones will be too fuzzy to broadcast.

Once the search is done, you may flip through all of the channels, finding out what ones you now have. It used to be that only a few OTA networks would come in on older TV sets. You might have only gotten two to three channels, which seriously would limit your viewing options. Today, however, it is possible to get dozens of different OTA networks.

One of the first channels that will probably come in is the local public broadcasting station or PBS. This station is the one that airs primarily education and children's programs. The programs start as early as 5:00 in the morning and commence until around midnight before it goes off the air for the day. It will air a newscast at some point in the day as well.

The remainder of the channels will probably be the local networks that do not need cable to be broadcast. The channels air a variety of shows like daytime dramas or soap operas. They also air talk shows, cop dramas, comedies, and a variety of others that might appeal to you. The local and national news will be aired at least once if not twice a day.

The local networks use these same OTA channels to air programs. Typically they run the same programs as the national networks. However, they will break in for emergencies like bad weather or local news that would affect public safety. The local news typically airs around 6:00 in the evening and again at 10:00 at night.

Paying a cable bill can be expensive every months. Even more, you might realize that most of the channels are something you and your family do not watch. When you are on a budget or you simply want to save money, you could switch to local free television. Picking up the networks is as simple as buying an antenna and plugging it into your TV. You then conduct a channel search and find out what ones you will be able to pick up at no charge to you.
